These were the slides used at a seminar in Manama, organised by Bahrain Polytechnic on 22nd June 2011. Bahrain Polytechnic have been using ELLI for two years and it is becoming well embedded in the learning culture there. The students at the Polytechnic are amazing – articulate and passionate about their learning and their futures. We spent some time finalising the Bahraini version of the ELLI questionnaire, adapting the English to suit this unique context. See these cards which show their own interpretation of the seven dimensions.

These two days in Bahrain illustrated the importance of context in optimising the impact of Learning Power ideas and strategies. The Polytechnic is a new institution (3 years old) committed from its inception to integrating the skills, dispositions and qualities needed for life-wide and lifelong learning into all their programmes, abolishing the tired old 20thC divide between academic and vocational courses and outcomes. This has been driven by staff who are as strong in vision as in practice. It has been a privilege to support these developments and, now with Ruth’s direct involvement, it is exciting to look forward to achieving a model of embedded practice that will be emulated widely.
